It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimesbut it might just save your life! The sound of very expensive shoes clacked against cold, hard flooring. The air conditioning was getting on a young sixteen year old's nerves. She was freezing. So, yeah, it was summer, but why the hell did that give them the right to freeze their students? Them... oh yeah. That was the staff. Mari muttered a swear under her breath as she plodded along the halls. There wasn't really a place that she wanted to be at the moment, she was just bored. It was lunch break and she'd just managed to finish a salad that she forced herself to eat. She had to eat healthy. Had to. She was afraid of going overweight.
Mari flicked her short brown hair behind her ear as she walked. She remembered how paranoid her mother was about certain hair styles. Her mother always had to have her way. And always had Mari's hair long. Well, the brown haired teenager didn't like that at all. It was impossible to comb out sometimes and looked flat most of the time. So she went and cut it off. Just like that. Of course her mother freaked out for a couple of days, her father (smart was he was) stayed on the side-lines. That wasn't his fight. And he knew it.
The girl peeked around a corner and found herself at the teacher's lounge. Mari pursed her lips. The teachers were enjoying lattes. Of course. Why not provide that for students? She kicked at the wall as she walked. She loved a good latte. Why did the teachers get such a nice treat? Of course, the students got sodas and nice foods, but Mari loved coffee. She liked mochas... and any coffee with caramel in it. "Coffee... yum. Maybe a Caramel Java Shake... thing... that would be good." Mari spoke to herself. That was a habit. But she didn't look crazy unless she did it in public.
As Mari turned a corner (once again), she found herself in the ballroom. Well, not IN the ballroom, just outside of it. The brown haired girl blinked as her right hand came in contact with the smooth, golden handle that opened into the ballroom. As she opened it, a warm rush of air greeted her, and she sighed. It was always nice and warm in here. Mari walked over to a section where there was a bunch of snacks and grabbed greedily at a cookie. Yum. Just yum. The teen grumbled something as she sat down and leaned her head against the back of the char. Ah. Bliss.

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? - - - - - - - - Nabiki had stood in the cafeteria for a few minutes, her slender fingers playing with her black hair as she tried to decide on what she wanted. Unfortunately nothing sounded very good to her today, at least nothing in the cafeteria sounded good to her. St. Lobelia had this freak thing with making sure that their students ate healthy and so they hardly ever had sweets on the menu unless there was a special occasion. And sweets were exactly what Nabiki wanted at that moment in time, and she knew exactly where those sweets were located. The ballroom. But first, something to drink. Walking over to the drink station the black haired girl took a cup and poured hot, lemon flavored tea into into, placing a cap on top before turning and walking out of the cafeteria. She attracted stares from the other girls in the cafeteria and they all wondered just where the youngest member of the Zuka club was headed. Hearing some of the whispers she allowed a small smile cross her face as she walked out.
Sipping at her hot tea carefully, Nabiki's fingers went back to playing with one of her pig-tails and she her thoughts went aimlessly to the last Zuka Club meeting they held and she gave a slight shake of her head. Just as the other meetings it had centered around the Host Club at Ouran and once again the others had come up with ridiculous ideas to take the club out. It would have been nice if they could have discussed coming up with a dance for the school. They hadn't had one in such a while and she really thought that it was time to do so. Oh well, Benio runs the club and the other girls follow her around like a group of lost puppies. Of course part of it was due to the fact that Benio was a very charismatic girl. People were drawn towards her like no other.
Nabiki was not a coordinated girl on the best of days, and lost in her thoughts as she was, the black haired girl failed to see the pillar that she was about to run into. Luckily her footsteps had fallen into a slower pace so she merely bumped into said pillar only enough to jar her suddenly from her thoughts. Her tea did not spill, something which surprised her more than bumping into the pillar, and then she looked around. She was standing in front of the ballroom, the customary place for the Zuka club to hold their meetings and where she kept all of the cookies and cakes that she baked. It was a secret place, many people knew that she held her sweets in their, but Nabiki had the horrible habit of making too many, and so she placed them in a place accessible to all of the students. They were up for grabs.
Her modest heels echoed through the empty halls as she neared the doors to the ballroom and her hand wrapped around the golden handle, enjoying the smooth feeling underneath for a moment before turning the handle smoothly. The door opened gracefully and on silent hinges, revealing the splendor of the ballroom with it's huge windows and light colored curtains. Sun spilled into the room, gracing every surface with its touch and making the magnificent room seem even more so than normal. Her blue eyes traveled over the room, stopping to rest on the girl who was enjoying one of the many cookies that Nabiki had sent just hours earlier. The girl looked familiar, but at the moment she couldn't rightly remember her name. "Are they delicious? I have yet to try one, even though I made them just a little bit ago. I don't know why I always end up making too many."

It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimesbut it might just save your life! Girls twirled around in their cute little skirts, practicing dance and ballet. It was a cool hobby, but it was something this girl was not really interested in. Well.. okay it would be cool to be a ballerina, but she had no experiance so, why try? Mari chewed on the cookie as she watched them in the school uniforms. The uniforms were rather comfortable, way more comfortable than the Ouran uniforms. Way more. Who could stand wearing those yellow cakes? Not Mari.
Cookie crumbs, one by one, spilled onto the floor as she stared at the cookie, not caring for the mess at all. Someone else could clean that up. Mari ran her fingers through her messy short hair as she got tired of watching the twirling and dancing girls. Dancing wasn't that appealing to her, it got boring after awhile. She tapped her shoes on the floor as she nibbled on the cookie like a little squirrel. She liked to eat things as slow as possible. It was fun. It was fun it eat like that. Well, it was for her. Maybe not for someone else who enjoyed shoving food down their throats.
The door slowly swung open, and Mari boredly swung her head over, and her eyes laid upon the beautiful Nabiki. The youngest in the Zuka Club. She quickly shoved the crumbs that were on her onto the floor and swept them under the chair, trying to make herself look as presentable as possible. Mari wanted to look her best for the newest Zuka Club member, after all, she might be the most famous one. When one girl joined, she got famous for a long time. The brown haired girl looked away, trying not to look like one of the fan girls, even though she was one.
As Nabiki walked over, Mari's heart hammered against her chest as she looked up and found Nabiki standing right beside her. To her thrill, Nabiki spoke to her! The teenager blink and sat up straighter than usual, trying not to seem as short as she actually was. "Nabiki-chan!" Mari gasped, staring at her, then back down at her cookie. "It is very good, you are a wonderful cook, Nabiki-senpai." The brown haired smiled. "It was just enough to provide for the students like me who love your cooking."

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? - - - - - - - - Nabiki's blue eyes scanned the shorter girl's face for a couple minutes, racking her brain to try and remember her name. She felt absolutely horrible about not being able to remember her name, especially since she knew the girl. Okay, maybe she didn't know her as well as Nabiki liked thinking she did, but out of the all the Zuka Club members she was usually the best at remembering names. She had to hold back the annoyed sigh that was threatening to escape her lips as she lifted a cookie and took a small bite. A small smile crossed her face as a chocolate chip seemingly melted in her mouth and she wondered however she had gotten to be this good at baking. With a slight blush rising on her cheeks, Nabiki reached back and rubbed the back of her neck, smiling at the girl. "Oh well thank you. I always end up making enough for anyone who comes through, and I think it bothers our baking teacher," she said, a slightly embarrassed smile on her face.
Her eyes went from the girl to the rather large array of cookies and she grabbed a second one. Her calorie intake was not something that she worried about, considering she made it a habit to run or swim nearly everyday. Not to mention that she was under the firm belief that life was much to short not to allow yourself the pleasures of eating sweets. She did, however, hesitate upon reaching for a third cookie when the dance instructor shot her a scathing look. That evil, vile woman hated it whenever Nabiki had sweets brought in. "She hates it when I have sweets brought in," she began saying to the girl, quietly so that the conversation would only be heard between them. "She says its because she doesn't want her perfect little dancers to fall into temptation, but really its because she knows she can't eat one without gaining twenty pounds." The obvious dislike Nabiki felt for the dance instructor dripped off of her words, even as she put a sickly sweet smile as the woman glanced at the two of them again.
She didn't delve into why she hated the woman so much, figuring that the girl probably didn't want to be bothered with Nabiki's personal history and drama. And then it hit her like a ton of bricks. If she had been walking then she probably would have fallen, but thankfully the black-haired girl was supported by the table. Mari! That's her name! Nabiki shouted to herself, happy that she had finally been able to remember. She was ecstatic and the bright smile that had momentarily been placed with a fake, sickly sweet one, returned as she looked at Mari. "So Mari, what brings you to the ballroom anyway?"

It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimesbut it might just save your life! Nabiki was beautiful, she had a very detailed, fine face with narrow eyes. Mari didn't say anything, just sat there gaping at her for a minute. She had such a sweet voice, and the young teenager really wanted to get to know her. Not like... dating but... she wanted to be friends with such a girl! Mari wanted to be like her. She wanted to look like her. The girl had always admired the Zuka Club! Mari wanted to be in the Zuka Club like any other girl. She had hundreds of girls to compete with, but one thing was for sure... eventually. Eventually. Mari would be in that club eventually!
"Oh well, I think it's great that there's always such good snacks out for the people here." Mari grinned, her voice bright and cheerful. She always thought that smiling made you look a lot better than you felt, and it usually worked for her. She was tired right now, and felt uncomfortable, but she tried to sound as loose and confident as possible. After all, this was Nabiki Kochi she was dealing with! Mari couldn't believe she was even talking to her... after all most girls never got the chance, they were too shy. Mari wasn't too shy, only with important poeple was she ever shy.
"If she thinks that, she might as well gain twice as much." Mari giggled. "You have to enjoy life as much as possible and ah... forcing yourself not to eat just means you're uptight. If she is serious about dancing, she'll dance it off." The brown haired girl said matter of factly, still trying to stifle the giggles. Although... she wasn't one to talk. She was afraid of gaining that much aswell. She placed her hands in her lap and looked at her shoes. She wasn't one to talk, she didn't know what to say! "Please, sit! I hate to see you standing while I'm sitting! It makes me feel awkward!" Mari motioned to the chair beside her.
The brown haired girl stared at her idol for a long time, noticing how her smile seemed to turn rather fake, and odd looking. Mari raised her eyebrows and tapped her fingers on the chair's arm, not saying a word. The orange ribbon in her hair dangled beside her face, and her fingers reached up to gingerly mess with it. "Ah! I uh... was just looking for a place to relax... that and I was bored." Mari chuckled as she leaned her head back onto the chair.

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? - - - - - - - - Nabiki was aware that Mari was gazing at her, but she said nothing about it. It was a normal thing for her, for any of the girls in the Zuka club really, and merely smiled. Her bangs fell into her face and she brushed it back in slight annoyance as she watched the dancing girls. She had never been coordinated enough to do ballet...or any kind of dancing for that matter, but with a teacher like the ones the girls had Nabiki wasn't too sure that she even wanted to try it out. Reaching back, she rubbed her neck and gave a small giggle, "yes well I do have to agree with you there." Reaching back for another cookie she said, "I'm not normally one to brag, but I really do make cookies."
"She's probably afraid to even look at them. Talk about temptation," Nabiki said, wiggling her fingers as the dance teacher again looked over at them. She nodded at Mari's statement, seeing the truth in the girl's statement. With that, she grabbed another cookie and stared at them for a moment, taking one more cookie so that there was one in each hand. Looking over at the other chair Nabiki walked over to sit down next to her and she very nearly slipped off of the edge of the seat. A loud squeak emanated from her mouth and she placed her palm over her mouth, wide eyes staring at the dance teacher as the woman glared.
She pulled at one of her pigtails and looked over at Mari, "maybe it's just me, but you seem, shall we say, bored? The ballroom isn't the most exciting place to be when its taken over by little girl's in tutus." And lets not mention the fact that I might be slaughtered in the next few seconds, she thought to herself. She couldn't really think of anywhere else they could go, especially since it wasn't like they could even leave the school grounds.

It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimesbut it might just save your life! Mari nodded and smiled. "Yup. Maybe you could teach me some time. I like to cook, I'm just no good at it." She chuckled, staring at the dancers, chewing on her lip. It wasn't like she was jealous too much... she just wished she had their good posture and beautiful figure. But she had decided a long time ago that it did not matter. Mari was beautiful, just the way she was, right? It wasn't like she was ugly. She was a good weight, a good height, and she had good looks. What more could a girl want, right? Right? She had gone deep in to thought. Again. But as she looked up, she noticed that Nabiki had been looking at the girls too. So she wasn't the only envious one? Or was she just... looking?
"Yeah, but that's kind of how I am. I am tempted by all sweets." She titled her head to the side and smiled, giggling. As Nabiki sat down and nearly slipped, Mari jumped and put her hand on her arm, only for Nabiki to regain balance, and Mari quickly removed her hand, turning red. "Don't mind the dance teacher, she's just jealous that you're so pretty." She grinned, leaning the back of her head on the chair and finishing off another cookie. Yummy... it was so good! Mari was going to regret eating all of these but they tasted good, so it didn't matter now.
Mari Utsukushii nodded at her statement. She was pretty bored after all. "Yeah, I am. Not because of you! It's just this place is boring overall. What other places are there to go?" Wait, were they friends now? Could Mari actually be friends with Nabiki Kochi? No, she had to think of her as a normal human being, because she was! So what if she was beautiful and popular? She was a human being just like Mari was and she deserved the same treatment, duh! Mari was getting excited over nothing, right?

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars? - - - - - - - - Nabiki couldn't help but laugh and she let her head fall back slightly as the soft sound came from her lips. Smiling back at Mari the girl nodded, "I'd love to actually. I believe everyone has the ability to bake or cook, they just need someone to show them. The directions in a book can sometimes be complicated." She remembered her first time making an attempt at baking and she had almost burnt down the kitchen. Her mother had almost forbade her from even stepping foot in that area of the house again, but the live in cook, back before her father decided to get rid of the staff, took pity on the young girl. There was a twinkle in her blue eyes and she was surprised to find that she was rather content at the moment. Watching as Mari chewed on her bottom lip for a few seconds, Nabiki could feel the Zuka clubs influence rise up and she reached out, tapping a red painted nail against the girl's chin. "If you keep chewing on your bottom lip there's not going to be anything left."
It had just happened, the words slipping from her mouth smoothly, as though she did that sort of thing on a normal basis. But it wasn't normal. The only time Nabiki really acted in such a...dare she say it?...flirty manner was when the Zuka Club was doing one of their tea parties. Benio's influence was taking a stronger hold on her than she had expected and Nabiki returned her hands to her lap, ignoring the light pink color that was covering her cheeks. First it was the slipping from the chair, which Mari's actions to try and help her had not gone unnoticed, then it was the accidental "Benio style"...Nabiki couldn't help but wonder how many more times she was going to embarrass herself before the day was out. She's just jealous that you're so pretty. Nabiki gave a slight shrug, a small smile on her face, "well that could be it. Of course, I think she dislikes the Zuka club period because we're always in here after school and Benio...well Benio enjoys taking up as much space as she can."
"Well other than the lawns there isn't really any other place we can go. Some classrooms are still being used, the library is..." Nabiki made a face at the mention of the library, "but the lawns don't really hold any excitement." A mischievous look overcame the earlier twinkle in her blue eyes and she drew up one leg, resting her cheek against her knee. "How do you feel about skipping the rest of the day? I have a large pool at my house, or there's always the water park...or the beach." Nabiki had never had a problem with skipping out on school, and her parents did mind too much, mainly because they knew their daughter didn't do it very often. Not to mention that Nabiki wouldn't do anything that could get her kicked from the Zuka club and she'd never miss a test. Of course, if Mari decided that she didn't want to go then Nabiki understood, they could find something within the school to do. Possibly.

'Cause some don't have the patience!some call me high maintenance! Mari had never tried cooking, but the smells of food, and of kitchens, made her drool her way in and beg for something. She wanted to be able to seduce people in such ways. Ah the smells of the kitchen. "Agreed. I want to cook, because I remember the first day my father hired a cook. The smells of the kitchen... ah so good. Cook would always let be sneak something, she was very patient with me." Ah, memories. The food had always been so good, that Cook made. So Mari had been inspired to make food. But she wasn't exactly good at it, she got distracted, she forgot ingredients. In the end she usually messed up.
As she nibbled on her lip, staring in another direction, she was surprised when Nabiki tapped her finger against her chin and gently scolded her. Mari was surprised, blushing hard she looked rather seduced. "Ah yeah... sorry." She looked down slightly, she would regret chewing on it so much, usually it was sore afterward. Mari looked up, refusing to look foolish. "Haha. Yeah, that's probably a better assumption than mine. Benio is... yeah. The ringleader. What else can you say?" Mari had a slight smirk on her face as she thought of Benio. She was pretty, but not quite as pretty as the rest of the Zuka Club in her opinion.
As Mari listened to Nabiki, her jaw dropped. Who knew the pretty Zuka Club member could be so devious? Her jaw quickly closed and she smirked. "That'd be great! I've only skipped school once before with one of my past boyfriends. But was it. Sounds cool! I'd love to see your house. And that pool." Mari felt excitement bubbling inside her as she leaned back in her chair. This would be the best day ever! It was noon, so they could probably sneak out easily, the teachers would probably think they were going to grab something to eat before the classes started. Mari couldn't think of anything better to do on a hot school day.
