The gentle clack of shoes echoed through the nearly empty hallway leading to the Third Music Room, many students at lunch or class still. One had decided to leave early from all that though, deciding to head to her club room before it was filled with people and chaos. This Host Club member was none other than the "natural rookie", as some had taken to calling her, Haruhi Fujioka. A few books were in her left hand, pushed up against her side so they wouldn't fall. When she came to the door of the Third Music Room, she rested her hand on the door handle, and slowly pushed it open to peeked her head inside. Half of her was expecting the typical red rose petals and the club all dressed up already just to spite her, but to her relief the room seemed to be empty.
Quickly looking behind her, almost as though she was trying to hide something, Haruhi suddenly slipped inside the room and shut the door, letting out a sigh of relief. "A few minutes to myself, finally," she muttered to herself aloud, resting her back against the door and looking around. It looked a lot like it did the first day she just so happened to stumble into this room. The memory brought back a slight smile to her face, and she pushed herself up off the door and headed over to one of the tables, setting down her books. Sitting in the fancy and very comfortable chair, she flipped open her literature book to where a piece of paper was lodged in. Pulling it out, she then felt around her pockets for her pencil. Once it was located, she pulled that out as well and then began to write on the assignment, occasionally peering at the book.
Yes, Haruhi was doing homework in her free time. It was almost pathetic, but she hadn't much time lately outside of school to do it. Let alone during school because of the club and her friends. So she had to snag the rare moments she had time to do it. At times she had to admit the club was a burden on her, but she was getting better at balancing things out. Humming an old Japanese folk-tune to herself as she worked, the natural rookie was completely oblivious to anything and anyone else.

The twins were silent; a clock ticked the seconds slowly by somewhere in the room. Hikaru was gazing out a window as Kaoru tapped his pencil against the desk making a soft ticking noise that sounded deafening in the silence. Tick. Tick. Tick. The sounds of voices outside and below echoed up and through the window floating to the boy’s ears. Students were milling around lazily doing nothing in their free time just as they so often did. It was disconcerting to the twins how people just lounged around doing absolutely naught.
“Ughhhhh,” The desk chair tipped back on its two legs and Kaoru moaned dropping his head backwards. “Where is the boss? He was supposed to be here by now.” the twin muttered grouchily. Hikaru didn’t reply as he continued to stare intently out the window. Attention caught, Kaoru straightened and gazed at his brother curiously. “What are you doing?” he asked setting the chair back down on all fours.
Hikaru raised a brow and turned, distracted, to return his brothers gaze. “Eh? Not much, just scouting for Haruhi or the boss.” the twin replied with an uninterested sigh. Boredom has crept its sneaky way into the systems of the twins and now they were held prisoner within its horrible ensnaring jaws. Oddly enough, to aid the monstrous feeling, club room three was desolate and deserted. Not a single interesting play toy was within sight, even out the window, and the twins could do nothing but sit there and wait for either, a, something to occur to them or, b, someone to come along and relieve the boredom malediction.
Leaning his head in his hand along the desktop, Kaoru echoed his brother’s sigh and wondered where everyone could have gone. An articulation had just occurred to him then to voice but at that moment, a sound came from the door catching both twins’ attention. Sitting up and facing the door, the Hitachiin brothers gave each other a curious look and stepped forward in unison. Creeping over to the side of the door, the twins hid along the wall in plain sight; they were concealed from anyone who simply entered the room straight on lest that person turn.
As the victim entered the room, it turned out to be Haruhi. Exchanging wicked glances, the twins watched her settle down completely unaware. Once they were sure she was enraptured in her work and wouldn’t be alert to anything, as Haruhi often became whilst studying, they made their cautious, silent approach. Tiptoeing across the room, the twins came up behind Haruhi and, with one last exchange of glances, they both slammed their right hands, one on each side of the girl, down along the table.
“And where have you been?” Kaoru asked. “Yeah, we’ve been sitting here bored to death without someone to torture for hours!.” Hikaru added. Both twins snickered to themselves and awaited the girl’s response. Hopefully with Haruhi’s sudden arrival there would be some relief of the emptiness the boys had been feeling. Then again, it was Haruhi - she was their best play toy to date; of course there would be relief.

Haruhi's brown eyes were narrowed in focus as she wrote swiftly, the pencil gliding smoothly against the white paper, decorating it with words of knowledge. The funny thing about the scholarship student here was that she rarely looked over assignments once they were finished. She had to quickly tuck them away and forget about them, otherwise she knew she would second-guess her A work and end up screwing over her grade by changing things without needing to.
Just as she was jotting down the last needed sentence, a smile started to creep onto her face... until suddenly two hands slammed down on either side of her. The books around her were suddenly sent flying off the table, and the pencil slid out from her grasp, the tip breaking off from the sudden force that quaked through the table. Haruhi herself tumbled backwards out of surprise, falling out of her chair with a little gasp, and them simply flopping backwards. Slowly opening her eyes, she was unsurprised to see the Hitachiin twins, two of her best friends. She groaned, holding her spinning head, and slowly sat up.
"You two... couldn't you just have approached me without scaring me?" she frowned, sighing. At Kaoru's question, she cocked her head slightly, "I just got out of Literature class about ten minutes ago. Speaking of which, where were you two?" Her voice sounded slightly accusing. Considering they were in the same year and class, they had almost all of their classes together, Lit. being one of the many. Of course, it wasn't unusual for them to skip a class or two. "Did you guys skip again?" she finally accused, staring at them expectantly.

Hikaru and Kaoru grinned widely down at the ground where Haruhi had fallen. They hadn’t meant to send her toppling to the ground and during the event they’d momentarily wondered for her safety. Now, gazing at the shocked figure, Hikaru let out a playful sigh of relief.
“Our little Haruhi shouldn’t go around falling off things like that!” he said making Kaoru snicker. “The boss wouldn’t like hearing you say that Hikaru,” the other twin said. “After all, she is Tamaki’s little girl.” Both of them grinned again and gazed back down at the girl. Smirking to themselves Hikaru and Kaoru pondered the situation of Tamaki’s relation to Haruhi and rolled their eyes mentally at the silliness of it all. Both had separate views on the situation yet they were together in the looking down upon it all.
Hikaru had his own confused feelings of jealously that he’d not yet come to terms with and Kaoru the same though more so he dealt with selfishness. To add to the twin’s point of view, no matter what it may have been, wherever there was a Daddy there was always, somewhere, a Mommy and generally, for the Host Club, Kyoya had assumed that position. That was something Haruka wouldn’t much - didn’t and doesn’t much - like the concept of though she’d never say it now. Yes, Haruka Fujisaki - the one in denial of everything just as Kyoya Ootori himself denied it all. The whole Host Club knew of the affairs concerning those two and it was a topic of mild gossip when none of the latter individuals were around. Well, everyone that knew of it which then came to exclude Tamaki-senpai. He was utterly clueless but that was pretty much normal.
With one last snicker, the twins turned back to Haruhi and gazed at the girl in order to address her questioning. “Of course we skipped.” Hikaru said. “There are only two of us, not four.” Kaoru added. “And what fun would there be in approaching you if we didn’t get a reaction anyways?” Hikaru asked with a sickly grin. Kaoru glanced at his brother understanding more than the simple double meaning in that statement than he should have liked too.
Everyday the relationship between Hikaru and Haruhi advanced if only ever so slightly and it was all a fairly unsettling business to Kaoru. Small hints here, a comment there, an unusual glance or ‘prank’ - everything was changing and Kaoru was slowly having to let go of his brother. He didn’t want to. He didn’t want to open up the small world they had to include Haruhi due to the tiniest of selfish streaks that ran through the boy. Why should he have to anyways? Because it was best for Hikaru. That was always the reason and what was best for Hikaru was best for him.
“Yeah, we skipped class.” the latter yawed. “But it doesn’t make much difference to our GPA.” the other added. Nodding, both twins grinned again and stretched out their hands in an offerance to raise Haruhi to her feet.
[shortest thing ever! T.T So sorry.]

Warm brown eyes fell upon Hikaru as he sighed and spoke, obviously teasing Haruhi as he always had. That was just life in the Host Club, though. The twins were like her brothers in odd ways, and she was one of the very few people who managed to step into their small world. "Well you if go around catching people off guard when they're focused, they generally might be surprised," the girl-host sighed stubbornly, shaking her head. Kaoru's added comment just made her sigh even more, but she didn't say anything back. There wasn't much to say to that, because Tamaki-senpai would have done exactly as Kaoru said, and there was no denying that. "Father" hated when the twins played roughly with his "daughter".
Haruhi's eyes narrowed slightly as they admitted to skipping. "You guys shouldn't be doing that," she frowned, worry showing slightly. Even though she knew it was pointless, she didn't like even the idea of the twins falling behind. Of course, things were so much different here in Ouran that she should have known by now just to accept it. Skipping happened often, and usually without penalty. Such was the rich world it seemed. As they quickly reassured her that their GPA would not be affected and offered their hands to her, she couldn't help but smile at the act of kindness and take them, "Thanks guys." Standing up, she grabbed the fallen chair and picked it back up, pushing it in.
She then quickly gathered up the fallen books on the floor and plopped them back down onto the table with a "thump". It had always been in Haruhi's nature to try and keep things orderly, especially after that vase ordeal that had got her into the "Host Club mess", not that it was really a mess to her anymore. She really found no better happiness with any other group of friends. Maybe it was because they were all so eccentric and unique, just like she was considered to be. It definitely wasn't because their good looks or money, not even because their charming ways. It had something to do with the sincerity and honesty each of the Host Club members held individually. It was those things alone that made it easy to tell apart the twins.
Haruhi honestly highly admired each of the twins immensely because of their combined individuality. Their differences between each other was what combined them so well, or at least that's how she saw it. And, lately, she had found herself spending a lot of time with the teasing Hikaru. Of course, being Haruhi, she was completely oblivious to the spark between them. There was an unsettling feeling for sure, like something was changing drastically, and she definitely saw the changes, whatever they were, affecting Hikaru and Kaoru's relationship greatly. It honestly concerned her, but she wasn't too sure how to go about addressing the issue.
Turning back around to face them, Haruhi quirked her head slightly, "So, how long have you guys been here anyway? I didn't see anyone when I came in..."
