Post by Hikaru & Kaoru Hitachiin on Apr 17, 2010 1:32:40 GMT -8
It was a bright, beautiful summer day as the sun glistened brightly and the clear blue sky above dazzled anyone who chanced to gaze up at it. The waves nearby that made the sky so blue, crashed delicately and with a certain level of what could have been poise that would only ever be found on a beach such as this. The soft sand that shimmered under the water slid through the toes of the Hitachiin twins as the two ducked this way and that in an intense water fight.
“Ha-hah!” Hikaru exclaimed leaping to the left. With his movement a great splash of water arose glittering in the sunlight and surrounded the boy as he aimed a not-so sneakily practiced water-gun at his twin brother. Kaoru’s eyes opened wide as he saw the movement and seemed to freeze momentarily. Then, quicker than a lightening flash, brought his water-gun up and pulled back on the trigger the same moment Hikaru did. The two jet streams of water came shooting out and into one another, neither twin making much headway.
Both of them growled in unison for a few seconds before pulling back at the same time and racing to refill the tanks. It was at this time, the same time that bubbles began to appear as the water-guns were re-loaded, that a sneaky little crab found its way over to the twins. It seemed that Hunny-senpai and Mori didn’t manage to get all of them last time or the crabs had reproduced and thrived in the beautiful waters of this beach. With a great pinch, it grabbed Kaoru’s toe then quickly skittered away. With a bit of a jump, the shellfish harassed twin dropped his water-gun and grasped his foot as tears lined his eyes. Attention caught, Hikaru turned and with a little ‘oh’ of question, he just as quickly dropped his water-gun and rushed over to his twin’s side.
“Kaoru!” he exclaimed. Bringing a hand to his twin’s face, Hikaru pulled it closer to his own.
“I-It was just a pinch," Kaoru stuttered. A few blush lines crossed his face as he stared into his twins eyes that were so exactly identical to his own. How many times in the past had things like this happened? Far too many to count that was for sure. Yet Hikaru was always there for him and for that, Kaoru was grateful.
“Yeah, well be careful where you step next time. Let’s go back to the beach." Hikaru replied. Then, tapping his forehead to Kaoru’s gently as if in chiding, he stepped back and grabbed the latter’s hand before starting to pull him out of the water. Kaoru dropped his throbbing foot and followed slowly still somewhat teary-eyed and blushing.
As the twins emerged dripping from the water, Hikaru dropped both water-guns on the sand and they landed with a soft plunk. Boredom seemed to be dwindling on the edges of the twins minds momentarily before a volleyball net was spotted nearby and a competitive fire was struck up in both. Brief glances at each other where shot then seconds later they took off across the sand hurtling towards the net racing to see who would get the best side. Not once did the twins stop to think of the crab again.
[ew ew ew; it’s uber short and disgusting. T.T Hopefully it might start a thread though and I’ll post something better next time.]

You either got it or you don‘t You either stand or you fall The waves that softly slapped against the shore were drowned out by the yells and laughs of the other people who were playing around on the beach. Shielding her eyes from the bright sun, Nabiki looked up at the brilliant sky and watched as small, wispy clouds floated along the sky in a slow, lazy manner. Taking a step back, she dug her painted toes into the warm sand, bring them out and watching as the sand sprinkled through them. Losing herself in the motion of the waves and the sound of laughing, Nabiki didn't hear her name being called.
The cool water splashed against her skin, bringing her out of her daydreams suddenly and with a loud gasp. The cause of the splash had been a child running through the water, making any attempt he possibly could do splash the water in every direction he possibly could. The water splashed against her skin again and she let out a small giggle, bringing her arm up to block the water from hitting her face. "Nabiki! Come on! We want to get the game started!" a voice yelled.
She turned her head and looked at a group of girls that she went to school with. There were a few guys over there too and Nabiki jogged over, joining a team. She didn't know if it was because of her training in gymnastics or because she was just naturally good at it, but Nabiki seemed to be rather good at volleyball. "Wait a second, why are we short people?" she asked, looking at the two uneven teams with a slight frown. This wasn't going to work very well, but it didn't seem as if anyone cared too much.
No one responded and she let out an annoyed sigh but took her position anyway. Her feet sunk slightly into the sand underneath her as she shifted from side to side, waiting as the other team spiked the ball. Diving to the side, Nabiki hit the ball, watching as the others missed. Sitting in the sand, she pumped her fists into the air. "Oh yeah! Point for us!" Her attention was drawn by two people who were running towards them and she taken aback at their extreme likeness. Obviously they were twins, but even so, there didn't seem to be any differences between the two at all. "Do you two want to play? We're short on members over here," Nabiki asked, pointing to the team of five and then her team of three. Hikaru and Kaoru raced through the sand eagerly. Their feet pounded heavily against the ground back and forth; two left, two right and again in unison. With an empty net plain in sight and their destinations in mind, Hikaru and Kaoru pounded through the sand like mad men. The feeling of the soft sand dragging them both down was omnipresent as the twins continued on their way each wanting to go faster yet going at the same pace as the other.
In this style of racing, neither gained much headway. They both sped up and down at the same pace and pounded along equally. It was repetition over and over the only change being the amount of beach they tore up as they raced along. The sound of a female voice suddenly sounded and both Hikaru and Kaoru stopped in their tracks at the same moment with blank looks on their faces. Turning to the area from which the girl had called, the twin’s gazed at her with bored expressions somewhat unsettled that she’d interrupted their run. As the call to join their team sounded though, the twins exchanged glances. What would be more fun? Play with the team or against themselves?
“Sure,” Hikaru called back. “Why not?” Kaoru added. Walking over to the girl, the twins were moments away from spreading out to cover her team seeing as the odds pointed that there was a lack of players, when suddenly the twins stopped. Eyes narrowing and coming to stand side-by-side as close as two people could possibly get - without toppling over - the twins leaned forward and gazed down at the familiar face.
“Kochi Nabiki-chan.” they said slowly, uniformly in unison. “ZUKA CLUB MEMBER!” they exclaimed. Two hands had shot out rapidly to point accusing fingers at the girl and the twins stepped back. “Why should we help you?” one asked. “Yeah, you all just want to destroy us, so we hear.” the other added snubbing slightly.
The twin’s paid no attention whatsoever to the other players who were watching the exchange with intense curiosity. Everyone was silent as the twins stood and accused the girl for no apparent reason. Zuka Club whositwhatnow? All eyes were on the three. Gazing down to the ground where Nabiki sat, the twin’s wondered how she would react. The girl didn’t look as if she had a particularly sharp temper but who ever knew without being befriended first? Sharp tempers were fun to poke around and fiddle with for the twins and, though they didn’t know Nabiki in particular, perhaps she would surprise them.
Crossing their arms over their chests, the twins continued to gaze down at the girl. For a moment Kaoru could have sworn he saw a flicker of surprise flicker across the girl’s face but that could just as easily have been an illusion from the sun that shone so brightly overhead. It was an exceedingly warm day, perfect for being at the beach, and the sun shone vibrantly overhead warming the backs of everyone that currently found themselves playing along the shoreline.
After a moment of silence, Hikaru and Kaoru let out tiny exasperated sighs as the girl’s height impediment was increased by her sitting on the ground. Reaching at the same moment, the twins each grabbed one of Nabiki’s wrists and pulled her to her feet. There. Now they didn’t tower so much. Well…that wasn’t quite true but still. The twin’s weren’t skyscrapers and they didn’t like feeling like they were which was how it felt being around Nabiki.
In truth, the twins didn’t know much about the girl really. She’d always been more of a background character in the Zuka Club. A person who’d never shown much interest in the dissolution of the Host Club but those where always the ones to be weariest of. The quiet ones where always evil.
“Hmph, short.” The twins muttered their thoughts a moment later. Then with a shrug, they crossed their arms again and gazed accusatorily. The words ‘Zuka Club’ were the only things rolling through the minds of those two boys at the moment. Z u k a C l u b . . .

You either got it or you don‘t You either stand or you fall At the time that Nabiki had asked the two if they wanted to play, they had only been close enough for her to know that they were twins. As they came closer, however, she came to the realization that they were the Hitachiin twins and she let out a disgruntled groan. Of all the people to meet at the beach, it had to be them. Maybe they won't recognize me. Maybe they won't agree to play, they'll go away, and I won't have to deal with them, Nabiki thought, not bothering to stand up. They didn't mention anything about the Zuka Club and instead gave her a bored look and agreed to play, coming closer. Giving herself an inner cheer, Nabiki was ready to laugh. The fact that they hadn't recognized her was probably because she was always the quieter one whenever the Zuka Club made a surprise appearance at Ouran.
The twins stopped rather suddenly and narrowed their eyes at her and they leaned forward, way forward, still gazing at her. It was rather awkward, really, and she couldn't help but wonder how the two of them managed to lean forward so far without falling over. In unison, they said her name slowly, as if they were still trying to decide if it really was her, and suddenly accusing fingers were being pointed in her direction. Their shout caused looks not only from the people she had just been playing with, but the other people on the beach as well. Surprise flashed on her face for the briefest second at the sudden and loud accusation, but the surprise was quickly replaced by annoyance.
Nabiki did not appreciate being pointed at, nor did she like the sudden, awkward attention these two twins were bringing her. For some reason, Nabiki was unable to form an immediate response to their sudden accusation, even though it was true. The Zuka Club was, in face, out to utterly wipe out the Host Club, but how did they know she wasn't different? There was only one reason that the girl was part of the Zuka Club; fun. It offered some sort of enjoyment in what would otherwise be a rather boring school life.
Their hands wrapped around her wrists and the small girl was pulled to her feet. Nabiki let out a startled gasp and had to quickly stabilize herself before she fell on her face, and she glared up at the two of them. "Yes, the Zuka Club is out to completely wipe the Host Club out, but what exactly do you plan on doing about it?" Nabiki asked them, her small hands settled on her hips as she glared up at them. It wasn't exactly what she had meant to say. Normally whenever she was grouped in with the Zuka Clubs plans by others, Nabiki tended to remind them all that she was merely in it for fun. Whether the Host Club got ruined or not was none of her concern.
Sadly for Nabiki, when she gets annoyed then she tends not to think too clearly about what she has to say. Letting out a soft "hmph", she turned her head away, her black pig-tails swinging with the motion, and she looked at everyone who was staring at them. Everyone was leaning in to whoever was closest to them, whispering one thing or another, but they were all staring and pointing, including a couple of Nabiki's own friends. Well, some friends they are, she thought. Weren't friends supposed to help if you were getting ganged up on?
There was mention of her height and her blue eyes widened slightly before narrowing again. She turned her head back to look at them, a cold look in her eyes. Nabiki knew she was shorter than most, but just because she knew it didn't mean that she enjoyed people mentioning it. Taking a couple steps forward, her arms now crossed across her stomach, she leaned towards them, "do you have some kind of problem with my height?"

The twin’s couldn’t help but grin slightly as they got a good retort out of Nabiki. She was sensitively tempered; that much they had deduced. Now, just to find out how much, the twins crossed their arms again and exchanges glances.
“We couldn’t care less about your silly little club.” Hikaru started whilst turning away with a bored expression. “Yeah, we all know the Host Club came before the Zuka Club.” Kaoru added as he leaned forward again. “Same thing.” --- “Copyrights to the boss.” Watching the shorter girl with wide eyes, the boy reached out and poked her gently on the cheek like child ogling an animal at the zoo. Reactions, reactions. A reaction was what the twins were after more than anything. They didn’t really think much of the Zuka Club nor the rivalry but it was always fun to have an excuse to annoy someone and see what sort of reaction they were able to receive.
“Your height isn’t anything to us either.” Hikaru continued once more. As the ogling continued, the twins were silent. “Hn.” Kaoru said in agreement upon straightening after a bit of a pause. Then, grinning in unison, the twins stepped forward closer to the girl and walked around her.
“The princess is getting agitated.” One of them began. “What should the royal servants do to put her in a more pleasant and tolerable mood, hm?” the other asked. Coming up behind Nabiki, the twins contemplated doing something to outright irritate her beyond belief but then, considering the crowd and rumours that would come about as a result, the twins figured it would be too much trouble for only a moments fun. Perhaps another time.
Instead, Hikaru and Kaoru decided to play their small confrontation off. One of the twins reached out and took the ball from one of the girls on the team that had been watching as if awestruck. With a charming smile and quick flash of his teeth, Hikaru had the ball in his position within moments leaving behind only a blushing, quite silent girl. Turning back to his previous acquaintances, Hikaru took the ball and bounced it softly off of Nabiki’s head once then turned to his brother. “You go out Kaoru.” he said and stepped back away from the group. In turn, Kaoru yawned, nodding, and spread out stepping around Nabiki again and going to cover and area that was empty. Breaking into a jog then pausing, he turned eagerly.
“Oi, Hikaru!” he called raising a hand. Turning, the twin grinned at his brother and bumped the ball giving Kaoru the first serve. Slowly, people began to come back to reality, back to the game, and some shuffling sounds were heard. One, two, three - up. The beach ball sailed neatly over the net only to be bumped back and the over again as the twins dove for it.
“Point!” Hikaru exclaimed. Snickering triumphantly, the brothers turned to Nabiki and grinned devilishly at her as they passed ready to continue the game. This was going to be fun. If in the least, it would be boredom reliving.

Nabiki was in not under the mistaken belief that she seemed threatening in the slightest to the Hitachiin twins. However, that didn't stop the surprise from registering all over her face when the two of them merely grinned at her defensiveness. Why would they be grinning because of that? Nabiki asked herself, attempting to relax her face so that the surprised look was no longer there. What she ended up with instead was a look that was half glaring at the two of them and half surprise. It was probably an astonishingly ridiculous look, and had Nabiki seen it on anyone else then she probably would have laughed.
She opened her mouth to say something witty or sarcastic, to come up with an amazing rebuttal to what they said about not caring about the Zuka Club, but words failed to come to mind as she felt her cheek get poked. Her eyes widened more and the dark haired girl barely managed to keep her jaw from dropping. Slapping at the hand that poked her, Nabiki set her jaw, "what do you think you're doing? I am not some...some...some child that you can poke just because you feel like it!" It never occurred to the girl that the twins were waiting for such reactions. Reactions that would not only make her look like a fool, but would also give them what they were looking for.
Still in a slight state of shock, Nabiki barely heard them as they mentioned that they didn't care about her height either. If she had heard this statement, however, then she may have asked why they mentioned it in the first place. Noticing how they circled her, Nabiki tensed her body, not too sure what to expect when it came to these two, and her worry only increased when they made mention of her agitation and what could be done to decrease said feelings. But, what are they planning to do? What about all of the people that are around us? Won't rumors be spread if they do anything too embarrassing? Her mind was running around so quickly that she failed to realize that they were no longer behind her.
"Wait! Don-" she stopped herself quickly as she turned, realizing that the place where the twins had been was now empty. Blinking, she turned again, slowly this time, and watched as one of the twins took the ball from one of her teammates. Without them standing before her, Nabiki had no idea which was which, and it bothered her slightly, but not nearly as much as being blown off did. Despite the fact that the twins had successfully made Nabiki look like a fool, she was not quite ready to throw in the towel. As long as she had a moment to calm down then ideas should be able to come to her, right?
She watched them begin another round of volleyball, as the ball sailed neatly over the net, and idea began to slowly form in her mind. Brushing back one of her pig-tails over her shoulder, Nabiki returned devilish grin that one of the twins gave her with a calm, cool glance before shifting herself into position. With her body in position it appeared as though Nabiki was now thoroughly concentrating on the game rather than the embarrassing situation that had just taken place. However, despite the fact that she appeared to be so relaxed, Nabiki was anything but that. Her mind was running this way and that, zig-zagging through different ideas and bringing them together to formulate some kind of plan.
It was because of this lack of mental concentration that she failed to see the volleyball fly towards her. She heard her name called and the sound snapped her out of her thoughts in time to see the ball. Bringing up her hands, Nabiki caught the ball, but not before it hit in her in the face, particularly her nose, and she fell back. Her nose was the only part of her face that had really been hit, but there was something about being hit in the nose that brought tears to one's eyes immediately, and this was true with Nabiki. Tears welled up, turning her blue eyes glassy, and that was when another plan came to her.
At this point, the pain in her nose was gone, but the tears were still there. She blinked once, causing a tear to break away from the ones grouped around her eyes, and a single tear trickled down her cheek. Only one, just for the added effect, and suddenly the other members of the team had swooped in on her, with the exception of the twins. "I-I'm fine. I just w-wasn't paying attention," Nabiki said quietly, moving her head so that her hair covered her face.
